Do you know about the new Care in your community section on your dedicated Members area of our web site?

We get a lot of calls and emails from employees wanting advice & support on issues relating to the care of more vulnerable family members such as young children, the elderly and disabled people.

It’s surprising just how many people have responsibility for family members who fall in to these categories whilst at the same time, holding down a full or part time job themselves.  That’s why we have put together this new service for you.

According to a recent study carried out by Carers UK, just over 6.5 million people in the UK are caring for a vulnerable family member or friend.

The information in the Care in your community section of the web site has a focus on everyday issues and problems that our members tell us they are concerned about and its there for you and your family to access at any time.

All you have to do is go to lifeandlegal.com and click members’ area. From there you will be asked for your login and password (this is detailed in your employee scheme booklet). Then just click Care in your community. In this section of the members’ area, you can expect to see information on issues such as:

  • The type of benefits available for carers and those they are looking after.
  • Maternity and paternity rights and up to date information on benefit and pay entitlement during these periods.
  • Details of local support groups and charities with links to their web sites for more detailed information.
  • “Best of” guides for those who are looking for local care homes for elderly relatives or nurseries for young children.
  • How to fund a care home facility and decide between a privately run one and an NHS facility.
  • How to enter in to a power of attorney for someone who can no longer manage their own affairs.
  • Helping a disabled or elderly member of your family to deal with and manage their own money and banking.

We hope that you will find this part of your members’ area useful and informative. If you can’t find the answer to what you are looking for or you would like us to send you some written resources or booklets on any caring for a vulnerable family member or friend, we’d be happy to do that for you. We can also put you in touch directly with specialist organisations in your own area that can help you.

Remember, we are only a phone call away and our job is to help you and your family to deal with issues which are of concern or worry to you. You can call us on 0845 6434282 or email us on info@lifeandlegal.com.
